Hard Pill Not Yet Swallowed is inspired by "When," a song written
by Dodie Clark. The song explores ideas of memory, youth, and
love. In this series I captured the dangers of idealizing the past and
romanticizing a former relationship. These are the lyrics that helped to unfold this project:
I'll never be sixteen
again
I'm waiting to live,
and waiting to love
oh it'll be over,
and I'll still be asking when.
The idea of identity and growing older fills the gaps between memory and letting go. This work reflects looking back at yourself and remembering days when things felt easier because you were younger, and the idea of identity seemed so clear and crisp. The work seeks to romanticize the past while also exploring the beginning of growing older and learning who you are.
